When in fact, according to the “1994 National Study of the Changing Workforce,” conducted by the Families and Work Institute in New York City, “open communication” was ranked highest by respondents asked to list items they had considered to be “very important” in choosing their current jobs. Salary was ranked 16th.

Recognize the Little Things
I don’t know if anyone really knows where we are located, or if anyone really cares, but we are in a frozen wasteland called Minnesota. If anyone watches the news, or if any out-of-state news channels cover this, it is REALLY cold here.

Recognition and Rewards Outlook for 2007
I find it interesting that a majority of organizations still have not “bought in” to the idea of recognition in the workplace. There are strategic implications to using recognition programs, whether formal or informal, in an organization, such as: reduced turnover, increased productivity and profitability, creating a positive work environment, elevating customer service, sales and satisfaction, improving retention of top performers, and more!

The Seven-Day Rule
Everyday I am bombarded with email on recognition. Usually, I scan them to see if they are interesting and, if not, delete, delete, delete. However, the other day I came across a particular email that was rather intriguing. It stated that employees are not committed to their jobs unless they feel appreciated for their contributions.

Employee Reward Selection
I really can’t believe that Thanksgiving is already next week, which means Christmas is literally just around the corner. I hate how holidays just sneak up on you all of a sudden. The holidays are the busiest time of year for a lot of organizations. One thing that managers must consider is year-end rewards for employee performance or other recognition/incentive programs. Therefore, I thought this blog post should address what to look for when choosing a reward.
