| Custom Award: A Solid Foundation BACKGROUND A private university wanted to recognize an elite group of alumni who gave substantial donations to the institution during the preceding year. The university wanted an award that symbolized a solid foundation since the donations that these few individuals made strengthened the financial stability of the organization. The university also wanted to ensure that the award emulate the university logo, a silver flame. DESIGN PROCESS The Director of Alumni Relations contacted his local promotional products distributor who in turn contacted the designers at Crystal D to discuss this project. The distributor discussed the background information regarding the project, including theme, timeline and quantity. The Crystal D designer used this information to create a project timeline and to get started on a concept sketch. The concept sketch featured a substantial three-tier base designed to represent the financial foundation that the donors provided the university. The accents and base were made of brushed aluminum to further emulate the university logo. A color rendering was produced for the Director of Alumni Relations to review. After a few minor changes were made to the rendering, Crystal D produced a spec sample. |
| RESULTS In approximately six weeks, this custom award was personalized for each of the individual donors and presented at the annual recognition ceremony. At the presentation the Director of Alumni Relations described the symbolism that the award provided and stressed the importance of the donations.
