The Event
First educate yourself about the each event or occasion. Gifts and awards are meant to be symbolic. Find out what your client wants to accomplish by recognizing an employee or vendor with a gift or award. Generally, businesses don’t want to give for the sake of giving – find out the deeper reason behind the commemoration. Use this information to suggest products and offer ideas that will represent the accomplishment.
Recipient Preferences
Next, think about the recognition event from the recipient’s perspective. The gift or award program that you help choose is more meaningful to the recipient than you may think. Familiarize yourself with the sacrifices involved in each accomplishment. Consider the late nights, long weekends at work, and other sacrifices that are required to accomplish a goal or meet a milestone.
Four Imperative Questions
Then ask yourself these four imperative questions:
- What will this gift or award mean to the recipient? What will it symbolize?
- How will it feel to receive the gift or award?
- How can the presentation be tailored to the individual recipient?
- What else can be done to transform this experience into a lasting memory?
Ready, Go!
When you have the answers to these questions, you will be ready to suggest products that will be personally meaningful to the recipient and will symbolize the accomplishment for the organization.
