Common Types of Awards

Performance-Based Awards
Performance awards are measured against the strategic business objectives. Employees earn these awards when they meet or exceed the business objectives. Performance awards are based solely on results such as,

  • Sales Growth
  • New Customer
  • Reduction in Customer Complaints

Service Awards
Years of service rewards are typically part of a recognition program. Service milestones are given in conjunction with the length of time an employee has served a company. You can choose the milestones that are most appropriate for your organization and employees. Typically service awards are given at 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years. Below are other examples of service awards:

  • Retirement Awards - Retirement awards recognize the professional accomplishments of an employee. Recognizing retirement leaves a lasting, meaningful memory with the recipient.
  • New Hire Awards - Acknowledging employees during the first two weeks on the job will help the employee form an attachment to the company. This exercise also shows the employee that recognition is an important part of the culture in your organization.

Safety Awards
A majority of U.S. businesses use safety incentives as part of their larger health and safety program. Incentives build and maintain employee interest in working safely. Incentives also act as a motivator to keep employees working safely.
