The majority of U.S. businesses use a safety incentive program as part of their larger health and safety program. Incentives build and maintain employee interest in working safely. Incentives also act as a motivator to keep employees working safely.
Over the years safety programs have taken on many forms. Some offer awards while others give cash incentives to employees that practice and promote safe behavior. Corporations of all sizes have reaped the benefits of a well-planned safety program.
United Parcel Service (UPS) is the winner of the 2005 Optimas Award for Innovation for significantly improving their safety record and decreasing turnover. The UPS safety program began in 1996.
