Integrity Value Champion

2017 Integrity Value Champion: Joe

Hello readers! Alexis here. I love talking to our Value Champions (VCs) about their experience winning an award. It’s always a great experience to watch my coworkers receive an award that they deserve.

Our Value Champions are people who have been nominated by their peers and selected by managers as a person who lives out one of our five core values. Our VCs receive a lot of awesome perks on WOW Day and throughout the year including:

  • An awesome award
  • Their name and picture on the Wall of Champions
  • A reserved parking spot right in front of the building
  • An afternoon boat outing with Chuck and the other VCs in the summer
  • Eight different meals from Let’s Dish!
  • $100 and an afternoon off in December to go holiday shopping
  • Re-recognized with a certificate that’s framed and presented to them at the end of the year
  • Meetings with managers over breakfast to discuss how Crystal D can improve
  • Planning company events and community outreach

Now that’s a lot of great stuff!

Today I had the chance to talk with our Integrity Value Champion, Joe. He told me a bit about his experience winning this award.

Joe Christensen and Chuck Dahlgren

Alexis: Congratulations! How did you feel when your name was announced as the winner? Did you think you were going to be the winner?

Joe: I didn’t think it was going to be me. I was very confused, kind of like “what is going on here?!?!?! OMG!”

Alexis: How did you feel when you were on stage during the presentation of your award?

Joe: I thought the presentation was great, and it brought out a variety of emotions for me. And then Chuck started talking about ME?! I couldn’t believe it. Awesome!

Alexis: Has anything been different for you since you won your award?

Joe: I’m more aware of the company values in my everyday work. Plus I had to get a bigger bookshelf to hold my new award.

Alexis: What are you looking forward to most now that you are a VC?

Joe: I’ll enjoy being part of this awesome VC team. Also I’m looking forward to helping out with events throughout the year.

Alexis: On a scale of 1-5 with 1 being “terrible” and 5 being “totally awesome,” how great is it to have a reserved parking spot?

Joe: 4.99, especially with snowy Minnesota winters.

Alexis: Now time for some fun, random questions. What’s the dumbest way you’ve injured yourself?

Joe: I’m not very clumsy. Although I have hit my head on a hatchback that’s been left open…more than once.

Alexis: What’s your favorite movie quote?

Joe: There are a lot of dumb quotes in my favorite movie, Orange County, and I can’t pick just one.

Alexis: Is a hot dog a sandwich? Why or why not?

Joe: A hot dog is a dog that is hot.

Alexis: Which celebrity chef would you most like to make you dinner? What would they make you?

Joe: Chef Boyardee would make me corn dogs.

Alexis: How often do you lose your keys?

Joe: Once. And I don’t want to do that again!

Alexis: Would you rather give up your phone for 30 days or dessert forever?

Joe: My phone. I am a professional dessert critic. Just kidding…I’m not a dessert critic. Just a big fan of dessert.

Alexis: Last question. What three things would you bring to a deserted island? “A way to get off the island” is not an option!

Joe: Dessert from a professional chef, a phone, and a hot dog.

Joe Christensen

This was hilarious and informative, Joe! Thanks for taking time to answer my questions and letting us get to know you. Congrats again on becoming the 2017 Integrity Value Champion!

If you want to congratulate Joe, leave him some love in the comments!
